Solutions For Grout Discoloration

April showers, you know the saying. As promised, this month we want to discuss how we can wash away the grout discoloration we mentioned in last month’s article. Now that you know why it happens, you can learn how you can help keep your tile surfaces fresh and well-maintained. Of course, if it is out of your control, feel free to contact Grout Medic and we can help you restore your grout back its brightness.

How to Restore Discolored Grout

  • Mix baking soda and water into a paste, apply it to the grout, and scrub with a soft brush.
  • For tougher stains, use a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda mixture.
  • Mix equal parts vinegar and water, spray onto the grout, let it sit for 5 minutes, and scrub with a brush.
  • Rinse thoroughly to prevent residue buildup.
  • If grout is severely stained or damaged, it may need to be removed and replaced.
  • Grout Medic can stain it to revive old grout without the need for complete regrouting.
  • Once cleaned, we at Grout Medic can also apply a penetrating grout sealer to prevent future discoloration and moisture absorption.

Preventing Future Grout Discoloration

  • ✅ Sweep and mop regularly to prevent dirt buildup.
  • ✅ Wipe down showers after each use to reduce moisture and soap scum.
  • ✅ Use gentle cleaning products to maintain grout integrity.
  • ✅ Seal grout annually to protect against stains and moisture.

By now we hope you’ve seen that you don’t have to settle for discoloration in your grout. There are many solutions to maintain it. Keeping your grout clean and well-maintained not only enhances the look of your tiles but also extends the life of your flooring and walls.
